Her World
Acrylic on Glass
10.6" x 12.2"
The warming rays of light, depicted by broken glass, cast a net over this female turle, representing the deadly effects of climate change. In sea turtles, temperature determines hatchling sex. Rising temperatures skew sex ratios, causing reduced reproduction, and population declines, further threatening endangered soeacies and increasing risks for others.
Painted on both sides of broken glass, light that refracts through the painting creates actual movement of highlights and shadows in the piece. The paint was used in thin, transparent or opaque layers to create rich depths of color and dimension.
